1. Smeg BCC02
Designed by Milan-based firm Deep Design, this sleek, compact and striking machine combines the distinctive retro style of the brand with cutting-edge technology. It is able to handle every step of the coffee-making process, from grinding beans and then tamping the beans into a puck to mixing milk and dispense the right amount - so you can make high-quality barista hot drinks at the touch of the button.
The machine also has an attractive brushed aluminum front and comes in a choice of red, black or taupe, meaning it's a great fit for most kitchen designs. There are some flaws however, as most users found it to be a bit expensive for a bean to cup maker (and it's not equipped with a milk pitcher).
There were also many glowing reviews about the quality of the coffee and the ease of use of this machine. The digital display offers feedback and step-by-step instructions throughout the entire brewing process which will allow you to improve your coffee each time. It even allows you to alter the grind size if it's not exactly right. It's like having a personal home barista (minus Harry Potter's invisibility cloak, and Elon Musk's rocket-building skills).
If you prefer drinks with milk this model comes with a steam wand that's adjustable upwards and downwards to fit all drinking vessels, but not the Viking's drinking horn. We were impressed with the speed and efficiency of the frothing process, too. It makes an excellent, full-flavoured, delicious espresso with a great crema.
The BCC02 is a great all-rounder that's quiet, efficient and provides excellent value for money at its current price of PS499. bean-to-cup coffee machines is the fact that it does not offer the same level of customization as some of the other bean-to-cups we've tried. It comes with a 15 bar pump, rather than the usual 19 bars that aren't as efficient for making high-quality espressos. However it's a great bean to cup machine for those who like their coffee strong and black. If you want to get the machine be sure to make use of Lavazza's fantastic deal Click here to view it.
